Guiding Principles

Be sustainable...

Society's awareness of the need to be "green," of respecting earth's limited resources, has reached exciting new levels. To be effective and meaningful, however, sustainability needs to be well defined and focused. At CWDesign, sustainability encompasses three core ideas:

Healthy Places - whether using low voc paints or locating sandboxes away from plants that attract bees, sustainable design means focusing on the comfort and well-being of the people who will be using the designs;

Respecting Resources - whether using recycled building materials or selecting drought-tolerant plants, CWDesign ensures that both the individual building blocks of a project and the completed designs are responsible with the earth's resources;

Efficiency - customizing spaces to you and your needs means single spaces can have multiple uses, thus reducing your environmental footprint.

When considered in these ways, sustainability bridges from theory to reality and has a real and tangible effect on our lives.

Begin with what you have...

An essential part of our process is to first review what you have in hand. Whether the home or garden, we will begin our process by identifying the strengths of your home as it exists. We will then work to complement and enhance those strengths so that we build from what you have rather than pushing you to start over.

Thinking outside the box...

When homeowners live in places for extended periods, they grow accustomed to where things are and how they work. Sometimes, however, it takes a fresh perspective, someone willing to test the expected, to see your project's true potential. CWDesign will do just that, exploring the possibilities to make your house and garden into a home uniquely suited to you.
